OR
HOW I MADE A STRANGE THESIS PROJECT
THAT MAKES YOU HAPPY
AND BRINGS PEOPLE TOGETHER
*Together! in Yiddish
"Tsuzamen" is often used to express the idea of unity, collaboration, or being with others. The word has cultural significance in Jewish communities and is sometimes used in phrases or expressions that highlight the importance of togetherness and collective effort.
Tsuzamen is a 6-foot wide round wooden table with a central aperture that opens and closes, and an integrated elevator mechanism I designed as my graduate thesis. It brings people together to discuss around a subject. This project was inspired by my personal experience of being a messy person with HDAD, living with my very organized wife. To ease the tension between us, I created a table that allows for the inevitable daytime messiness to be neatly concealed at night. This project, which aimed to bring people together through dynamic spatial experiences, involved learning to code, practicing woodcraft, and working with electronics and motors. The outcome featured exhibition-scale wooden elements, enhanced by motors and sensors, resulting in captivating movements that engage and inspire interaction, while also offering a practical solution to daily life challenges.
