Entropy: Altered Ecology
With the current change in climate and the difficulty in producing crops in harsh environments. Iceland became the perfect prototypical site for a sustained research hub. The objective of this thesis is to integrate 3 extremely different ecosystems, Rainforest, Rocky Grassland, and Mojave Desert into an ecosystem that may not naturally support them, with the aim of conducting research of how ecosystems react to a fully enclosed environment and bolstering food security for adjacent regions. The ecosystem will incorporate species not traditionally sustained in the area to foster agricultural diversity and productivity. This city will allow us to gain experience with climate control and the resilience of a human-made ecosystem that will be invaluable when climate change makes it difficult to farm and sustain ecosystems.
I aim to build a Nexus to host education, engineering, science, agriculture, conferences, and exhibition space that directly engages climate change. This building will be part academic, part commercial, part exhibition, and will act as a beacon for climate change.
